Cause

Want a chance to win big, while also helping cats and kittens in need?

Now more than ever, your generous donations are critical to helping us continue our work to help feral, abandoned, and unwanted cats and kittens.

Since forming as a society in September 2018, Valley Cats - Alberni Cat Rescue has been working to increase our capacity to help control the feral and abandoned cat population in Port Alberni and surrounding areas. Kittens born wild become increasingly difficult to socialize if they are not tamed by around 8 weeks of age. Feral and un-socialized abandoned cats are therefore treated as a nuisance.

To attempt to halt this cycle, our organization has centered our efforts on locating feral and abandoned kittens; providing vaccinations, vet care, and ensuring that 100% of the kittens and cats we adopt out are spayed or neutered. We have successfully spay/neutered and adopted out hundreds of cats since starting in 2018. As each cat and their offspring can produce 21,000 kittens in their lifetime, we have successfully prevented thousands of new cats in our area.

What we really need help with is monetary support to not only keep helping feral and/or unwanted kittens but also address the feral adult cat population in Port Alberni.

Feral adult cats can be trapped, neutered, and released (TNR) back to the colonies from which they came. They are mostly unsuitable for human homes, but if they are healthy, they can be released to continue to live in their colonies without reproducing. The long term goal therefore, is to reduce the population through attrition. Last year we rescued several kittens from one of a few feral colony in Port Alberni who then tested positive for feline leukemia. This means that FeLV is present in that colony, which presents a danger for any domestic cats who may come in contact with them. We feel that it is extremely important that we curb this outbreak by humanely reducing the number of feral cats in this colony, and in other areas.

Every lottery ticket you purchase goes a long way in securing the futures of hundreds of sick, injured and homeless cats and kittens who come into our care.
